Warrior Spirit

So, what do you and your friends do when they all turn/turned 40? I've got an idea, pack your sleeping bags and pillows, drive down to NY, have a sleep over at your dear friend's apartment, go down to St Marks Street and get some ink! I highly recommend it. Here's what I got-
It means warrior spirit or essence of warrior. At first I thought it just meant 'warrior' but upon further research I found out it actually means Warrior spirit which is what I originally wanted. I'm very happy with it. Its on my leg and as soon as its healed nicely I'll post a picture of it.

Oooo, love the ink! I just got these rather large inner forearm(both of them) tattoos last Friday. One is a tiger and one is a dragon. I'll post pictures. More ink! Congratulations. I also have the kanji for four of the "Five Rings" (the book, that is, by Musashi).

I've got a band on my leg that I'd like completed with something martial but I can never decide with what! Nice choice of celebration.

That's cool. I don't do tattoos myself, but I don't have anything against those who do get them.

errr
you don't want to know where it is.

Very nice! Is that your first tattoo?

I have two, and plan to get another. They're addictive! Almost as addictive as martial arts training. :)

My comment is the same as Becky's. But I like your choice! I always thought that if I did get something, it'd be a Songahm star (the symbol/base of my form of TKD) on the base of my heel so that when I went to kick someone, that's what they'd see! But I'm too chicken. My 40th (gasp!) is at the end of the summer, so I'll have to think of something else that's just as exciting to do...;-)

OUCH.. oh no.. not for me. I'm happy for you, but me? um.. no.. thank you. My skin has enough decoration, thank you.

Disclaimer: I have no certification in Tatooing, or body art. My opinion is only that of my own.

Where did you research to learn this character means "warrior spirit"?

That's a nice choice! I still haven't made up my mind on mine.

Nice tattoo! I have two tattoos. Its a great way to decorate the body externally with what we feel internally. :)

I hate to tell you this, but your tattoo is missing other parts. The symbol shown by itself is "Bu" or in english, "Military Man". If you want warrior you have to have that plus the sympbol for "shi", which looks like a plus sign w/ a line across the bottom. To get "warrior spirit" you need "bushi tamashi". Tamashi is japanese for spirit. In total you need 3 kanji characters for warrior spirit. You can add the missing ones to make it correct.

My first tattoo was also done a few wks before my 40th, but it was before I started martial arts training. It is Sammy Hagar inspired. (Another of my passions.) I designed/drew it myself and it is on my upper right back. Now that I have started martial arts, I had decided when I get my yellow belt,I would get my newest ink - a dragon with a kanji character (not sure what yet - probably the one for perservierence (sp?) or dragon as I was born in the year of the dragon.) It will be on my right ankle. Now, just have to get the funds together.
