someone light a fire under me please!

I have basically hibernated for the past 2 months. I am in TERRIBLE shape. It started when I joined the Shape Up RI thing thru work. We had teams, we wore pedometers and I had all these ideas of starting running again and more karate etc etc. Instead...I became the laziest slug on earth. Passive aggressive maybe? Seasonal Affect disorder? Too much stress? I don't know. All I know is that I HAVE to get back to karate. It is taking a toll on my flabby gut and my flabby brain.
I have learned some new crochet stitches in the mean time...so my right hand is in excellent shape. I started working on an afghan/Tunisian stitch and bought these really long afghan crochet hooks. I have so much yarn that was my grandmother's it would be perfect to make an afghan with it all. I'm also still working on my granny square afghan, too. I'll post pictures soon, I promise. I've also been gardening-starting seeds for this years vegetable garden and doing a bunch of yard work.
I miss kicking and punching and kata. Although, I do kata at home its not the same workout I get at the dojo. Its not as much fun either.

It just so happened that I was alerted to your post and mention of Shape Up RI. I actually work for the organization and would enjoy helping get you back into martial arts and back on your feet again. As such I would like to offer you a one month pass to Mastery Martial Arts. We have a close relationship with their organization and with locations in Centerdale, Cranston, Johnston, Smithfield and Warwick there should be one near you. I hope you will accept our offer and be in touch so we can get it to you. Call 401.421.0608 and we can set it up.

Ugh, I've been there! You'll get back to it. It's true that kata just isn't the same when you're not doing it at the dojo. You also don't push yourself like sensei can...

mike-thanks for the offer! However, I'm quite happy with the dojo I belong to. I haven't stopped going because of anything they've done..just my own issues. But again, thanks.

Somaserious-thanks for the moral support!:) You're right..I'll get back to it.

Well, join the club! I haven't been to the do-jahng for about 2 months as well. For me, it's been a monetary issue. We were a little financially strapped, and frankly, I needed a break, so we just sent my son, and I took a cycle off. I'm starting back shortly-- either on Saturday or my regular class day of Wednesday. So you aren't the only one feeling like a slug. At least we can start back together! Fresh start! Just we'll have to ease back into it. We're not as young as we use to be, even if we're young in spirit!

Yes.. you only need to convince yourself to walk out of the door, and start heading towards the dojo, I'm sure that once you are there, things will click in, and you will enjoy yourself again. Little steps, I really encourage you... Go to the dojo on Tuesdays, and Thursdays for an hour or something like that.

I took a week off to get my head together about a few things, so I totally understand where you're coming from! It's sometimes very hard to motivate yourself.

Doing the katas at home is good, but if you don't have room for a heavy bag, it's hard to get good punches in.

Hang in there. You'll get back as soon as you're ready.

Hi Mere!

Just wanted to let you know that, as you stipulated, I did NOT include you among the recipients of the "You Make My Day" award over at my site. :)

Love,
your big, goofy sister

Sometimes you need to just give yourself a break. You don't always have to be in great shape. Maybe you're just giving yourself a much-needed rest.
